Privacy Policy
This page says what Inka collects, why, and what we do not do. Inka is operated by INKA.
The short version
- Your writing stays on your device unless you sign in. Then it is also stored, encrypted in transit, so it can follow you to your other devices.
- We do not read, sell, or analyse your writing, and we do not use it to train anything.
- We do not run advertising or ad tracking.
What we collect
- Your writing and settings. Saved on your device. If you sign in, your pieces are also saved to our database (hosted by Supabase) under your account, and only your account can read them.
- Account details. Your email address, and a name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. Used to sign you in and to email you about your account. If you create an account, we also store how you found Inka — the referring site's domain and the campaign, when there is one — with that account, and whether you ticked the update-list box when you signed up. The domain only: not the full address, and not what you searched for. We skip this when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
- Payment details. Handled by Stripe. We receive a record that you paid and which plan you chose. We never receive your card number.
- Creator links. If you arrive on a link a creator shared (it ends in
?ref=and their name), we keep that name for 60 days in a cookie,inka_ref, and in your browser's storage, and nothing else. If you create an account or buy Pro in that time, the name is saved with the account and with the payment, so we can pay the creator. It is never used to identify you, and we skip it when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. - The update list. If you type your email address into the box at the bottom of a page on writeinka.com, tick "Get a note when something new ships" when you create an Inka account, or turn on Email updates in Settings, we keep that address (stored by Supabase, in the United States) and which box it came from, and use it only to tell you when something new ships. Nothing else is attached to it. If you have an account, Settings → Account shows whether you are on the list and lets you join or leave it. Otherwise write to writeinka@gmail.com to be taken off the list.
- Anonymous usage counts. Inka counts what people do, never what they write. Four short answers:
- What is counted. Actions such as opening the editor, beginning to write, selecting a room, exporting, starting a Study block and creating an account. With each one: fixed labels for the referring service or campaign, the landing page and the button used to enter the editor; the host name of the Inka site the visit started on, so the app and the marketing site can be told apart; and a yes/no flag for whether this browser already had writing saved. A random browser-tab visit id groups them; it is not an account or a person id. Error counts carry a standard error type and source-code coordinates only, never the message.
- What is never counted. Your writing, document titles, email addresses, account ids and custom background URLs are not in these events.
- Where it is kept, and for how long. The rows are stored by Supabase, in the United States, and kept for up to 13 months. The visit id and its labels live in your browser's session storage, normally cleared when the tab closes; after 30 minutes without a recorded action a new visit begins.
- How to turn it off. They are disabled when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
- Basic technical logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for a short time to keep the service running and secure.
What we do not collect
No advertising cookies, no fingerprinting, no tracking across sites. Inka counts page views with Vercel Web Analytics and page-loading speed with Vercel Speed Insights; neither sets cookies or stores personal data. Inka uses your browser's local storage to remember your settings and your writing, and one cookie-like token to keep you signed in. There are two real cookies: inka_internal, set for a year on visits we make ourselves so our own testing is left out of the counts, not set for ordinary visitors and holding nothing about you; and inka_ref, the creator's name from a creator link, described above. Nothing else is stored.
Third parties we rely on
- Supabase for sign-in and syncing your pieces.
- Stripe for payments.
- Vercel for hosting.
- Spotify, only if you play music. It plays in Spotify's own player inside the page, and Spotify's privacy policy applies to that player. Your writing is never sent to Spotify.
- YouTube, only if you paste a YouTube link as your own background or for Notes. Then YouTube's player runs inside the page under YouTube's privacy policy. The built-in animated rooms are Inka's own video files; no third party is involved.
- Google, only if you sign in with Google or use Send to Google Docs. The document is created in your own Google account; Inka keeps no copy of your Google sign-in. Send to Google Docs asks for the
drive.filescope only, which lets Inka see and change just the files it created itself — it cannot read anything else in your Drive. Inka's use of information received from Google APIs follows Google's API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: that data is used only to provide the export you asked for, is never sold, and is never used for advertising or to train anything.
Where your data lives and how long
Synced pieces are stored in the United States and kept until you delete them or your account. Deleted pieces are removed from our servers within 30 days. Server logs are kept for a few weeks at most.
Your rights
You can export everything you have written at any time from Hub, Export. You can delete pieces in the app. To delete your account and everything synced with it, or to ask what we hold about you, email writeinka@gmail.com and we will do it within 30 days. If you are in the EU, UK or California, you have the rights those laws give you, and this is the address to use.
Children
Inka is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and on this page before the change takes effect.
