Facts about Inka
Inka is a free writing room in the browser. You pick a room, layer sound, set a timer, and write. Nothing in Inka writes for you.
This page is the short reference: one place for reviewers, writers and search tools to check a number or a feature without reading the whole site.
What Inka is
Inka is a writing app at app.writeinka.com. This site, writeinka.com, describes it. The writing room is a page, a room behind it, mixable ambient sound, and a Study timer.
- 30 rooms you can choose. 11 of them are animated video. 18 do not move. Ten rooms are free: Cozy Rain Room, Rainy Tokyo, Moss Floor, Alpine Meadow, Window Counter, Ink Room, Aurora Cabin, Starlit Dunes, East River Night, and Cape Town Night.
- 19 ambient sounds you can play at once, each with its own volume. Eight are free: Soft Rain, Heavy Rain, Fireside, Shoreline, Mountain Wind, Exam Hall, Reading Room, and Airplane Cabin.
- Typing sounds. Off and Cream are free. CherryMX, Typewriter, and Panda are Pro.
- A Study timer with ten looks: Flip, Candle, Ring, Hourglass, LED, Vinyl, Just the room, Scribble, Sun arc, and Moon. All ten are free.
- Spotify in the page: tap one of the playlists, or paste a playlist, album, or track link. Full songs need a Spotify login in that browser. Inka does not connect a Spotify account.
- Legible mode (Atkinson Hyperlegible, wider spacing, taller lines) is always free.
- A daily word goal, free, 500 words by default, with a streak when you meet it. A word target for one piece is Pro.
- Export of the open piece: copy, .txt, .docx, or a live Google Doc. Export is free.

What is free, and what is Pro
Free does not expire. Locked things show a PRO mark. The same split is on the pricing page.

The 15-minute and 25-minute presets are free. The 50-minute preset is Pro, because anything over 25 minutes is Pro. An open-ended timer that counts up is free. When a block ends, Inka can offer a break of 5, 10, or 30 minutes.
New rooms and sounds go to Pro. Counts above are from the app on 10 October 2026.
What Pro costs
Inka Pro is $7 a month, $49 a year, or $99 once. Prices are US dollars. Checkout is Stripe, from inside the app, after you sign in so Pro can follow you to another device. Monthly and yearly plans renew until you cancel. Lifetime is one payment. There is no trial.
If you stop paying, the pieces you already have stay. You can keep writing in them and export them. You cannot start a fourth piece until you are back on Pro.
Where writing is stored
Writing is saved on the device as you type, in the browser's local storage, including the line you have not finished. It is not sent anywhere unless you sign in.
Sign-in is optional, with Google or with email. Signed-in pieces sync to a database hosted by Supabase so they can follow you to another device. Rooms, sounds, and settings stay on each device. Inka does not read your writing, sell it, or use it to train anything. There are no ads.
The app does send anonymous usage counts, such as opening the editor or starting a timer. Those counts do not include the manuscript, the title, an email address, or an account id. They are off when the browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. The full account is the privacy policy.
The fonts on this site and in the app are served from writeinka.com, not from Google.
Inka does not write for you
Inka does not generate, rewrite, or continue your sentences. There is no chatbot and no model call on the text you type.
A typo underline, on by default, checks words against a dictionary on your device after a sentence settles. An optional note that suggests tighter wording is off unless you turn it on, and it also runs on the device. Neither one sends the sentence out, and neither one writes a sentence for you.
What works offline
After Inka has loaded once on a device, you can write with the connection off. Pieces, the timer, and sounds you have already played keep working. Copy, .txt, and .docx export are built in the browser, so they work offline too. You can install Inka from the browser's menu and open it in its own window.
Sign-in, sync, Spotify, a YouTube background, and Send to Google Docs need a connection. Room videos are larger than the app's cache limit, so the service worker does not store them. Offline, a room you have not already opened shows its still picture. A video the browser itself has cached may keep playing.
