Where is my writing saved?

On your device, as you type. Your writing never leaves it unless you sign in.

• Your pieces are under Pieces in the Hub.
• Earlier versions keeps a copy for each of the last seven days you wrote. Restoring asks first.
• If storage fills up, Inka says Saving is paused. Export, then clear space.
• Clearing your browser's site data deletes your writing on that device. Sign in or export first.

Sign-in and sync

No account needed to write. Sign in to have your pieces on more than one device: Hub, Account, Sign in. Google, or email.

• Pieces and the words you add to the dictionary sync. Rooms, sounds, settings and stats stay on each device.
• Syncs a moment after you stop typing, every two minutes, and when you return to the tab.
• Same piece changed on two devices: the newer change wins.
• Written while signed out: kept, and uploaded next time you sign in.
• Signing out leaves everything on the device.

Does Inka work offline?

Yes, once it has loaded on that device. Writing, pieces, timers and sounds you have used all work. You can install it from your browser's menu.

Needs a connection: sign-in and sync, animated rooms (you get the still), Spotify, YouTube backgrounds, Google Docs.

How do I get my writing out?

• Download .docx, opens in Word, Pages and Google Docs.
• Send to Google Docs makes a real Google Doc and keeps it updated while you write. Lasts for the browser session. Inka keeps no copy of your Google sign-in.

Timers and breaks

Hub, Timers, Enter the room. Four looks: Flip, Ring, Candle, Hourglass.

• 15, 25 or 50 minutes, your own number, or open-ended. Past 25 minutes is Pro.
• When a block ends, Inka offers a break, then brings you back.
• Repeat with breaks: block, five-minute break, block, until you leave.
• The room is yours alone. Nobody else is in it.

Page and text

With pictures: customize your writing space.

• Page behind the words: None, Clear, White, Ruled.
• Typefaces: Serif, Sans, Mono, Atkinson. Sliders for size, spacing, opacity.
• Legible mode: Atkinson Hyperlegible, wider spacing, taller lines. Always free.
• Auto-settle after a pause: 1 to 4 seconds, or never. Enter settles at once.
• Backspace on an empty line lets you edit the last sentence where it sits.
• Catch typos underlines likely typos after a sentence settles. Runs on your device only.
• Cmd+' jumps to the next underline, Cmd+; to the previous; Fix all certain in the popover fixes every sure one at once, Cmd+Z takes it back.

Journal, goals and streaks

• Today's journal opens today's entry or starts one.
• Daily word goal, 500 by default. A thin line along the bottom edge fills as you go.
• The flame in the dock is your streak. A day counts when you hit the goal.
• Word target is a goal for one piece. Pro.
