A word sprint timer, beside the Inka writing app

A word sprint is a short clock and a count at the end: how many words you got before it hit zero. This site has the clock. The Inka writing app is the room you can sprint in.

What a sprint is for

Use a sprint when starting is the hard part, or when a daily number feels too large to face as one lump. Ten or fifteen minutes is enough to get a paragraph that exists. Twenty-five is the usual longer burst. You write badly on purpose, then you look at the count, then you decide whether to go again.

A sprint is not a quality pass. It is a way to produce words you can edit later. Inka will not grade them.

The clock on this site, and the timer in the app

The writing sprint timer is only a countdown. Fifty minutes is free there, because nothing else is attached. It chimes if you leave the chime on and the browser allows it. Refresh the tab and the clock resets. Your document, if you had one open beside it, is untouched.

Inside the Inka writing app, the same kind of block lives with the room and the sounds. There, anything over 25 minutes is Pro, including the 50-minute preset. Up to 25, and an open-ended timer, are free. Use the site clock when you are in another document. Use the app when you want the draft and the room together.

How to run one

  1. Know the number you are chasing today, or ignore the number and just start. The words-per-day calculator is there if a deadline is the reason.
  2. Start the sprint timer. Write until zero. Do not stop to fix the first sentence.
  3. Note the word count. That note can be in the draft, or on a scrap of paper. The timer does not count words for you.
  4. Rest, or start another sprint. Stop while the scene is still moving if you can. That is easier to resume than a polished ending.

Questions

Does the sprint timer save my writing?

No. It is a clock. The draft stays in whatever document you already have open, or in the Inka writing app if that is where you typed.

Is a word sprint the same as a Pomodoro?

Close. A Pomodoro is a fixed work-and-break pattern, often 25 and 5. A sprint is any short burst aimed at words. You can use 25 minutes for both.

Will it count my words?

No. You count, or your document counts. The tool only counts time.

Is 50 minutes free?

On the sprint timer page, yes. Inside the app, a block over 25 minutes is Pro.
