A Pomodoro timer for writing, in the Inka writing app
A Pomodoro is a work block and a break. In the Inka writing app the usual free block is 25 minutes. When it ends you get a break, and the screen can change to a quieter room. The draft does not go anywhere.
Lengths, and what is free
Fifteen and twenty-five minutes are free presets. Any custom length from 5 to 25 minutes is free. An open-ended timer that counts up is free. The 50-minute preset is Pro, and so is any block over 25 minutes, up to 3 hours.
The gate is on starting the block, not on looking at the number. You can see 50. You cannot run it without Pro.
What happens at zero
The block ends on its own. A panel offers a break of 5, 10, or 30 minutes and tells you the writing is saved. The break can move you to the Waiting Room, a light quiet screen, and then bring you back to your own room. Your chosen room is not overwritten.
If you turn on repeat, blocks and breaks continue while you stay in the session. A block that is already running keeps counting even if you leave the study screen to look at the page. The dock shows minutes and seconds. Opening Study again shows the length that is running, and you can change the look without restarting.
How to use it for a writing block
- Decide the scene first: one room, one sound, or silence.
- Open Study. Pick a look, then 25 minutes. Either order works. The session starts on the second choice.
- Write until it ends. Do not edit the mix in the middle unless the sound is actually wrong.
- Take the break. Then either start another block or stop.
The sprint timer is the same idea with no room, for when you are already in another document.
Questions
Is 25 minutes free?
Yes. So is 15, any custom length up to 25, and an open-ended timer. Over 25 minutes is Pro.
Does the timer write anything?
No. It only counts. The words are yours.
Will it alarm?
The block ends and the break panel comes up. The sprint timer on this site can chime. Inside the app, the end of the block is the panel and the room change.
Can I keep a 50-minute writing block?
That preset is Pro, because it is over 25 minutes.
