An aesthetic Pomodoro timer in the Inka writing app

The timer in the Inka writing app has ten looks: Flip, Candle, Ring, Hourglass, LED, Vinyl, Just the room, Scribble, Sun arc, and Moon. You pick the look and the length. The look is free. A block longer than 25 minutes is Pro.

What the ten looks are

Flip is a split-flap clock. Ring is a circle that closes. Hourglass is the sand. LED is a digit display. Vinyl is a record. Candle is a candle burning down for the length of the block. None of these is a stock photo of a desk. They are the timer, drawn in the room you already picked.

Scribble is a clock face drawn by hand, the minute hand making one turn over the block. Sun arc is a sun crossing a dotted arc and setting as the block ends. Moon is a moon whose lit side thins to a sliver. Just the room is nothing in the middle at all: the room, and the block in the Timer widget at the side. Those three clocks sit under More looks.

Nothing is pre-lit when you open Study. You choose. If a block is already running, you can switch the look without starting the time over.

The candle is a clock

The candle marks the block you set. It is not a scent, and it is not a separate product. Twenty-five minutes is a free block, so a candle for that length is free. A candle for 50 minutes is Pro, because of the length, not because of the drawing.

The open-ended timer counts up instead of burning down a fixed block. That one is free too. It does not pretend to be a Pomodoro. It is just the time since you started.

The room behind the clock is whichever room you already picked. The look does not bring its own wallpaper. A candle in Cozy Rain Room and a candle in Ink Room are the same timer in two different rooms.

How to start one that you will leave alone

  1. Pick the room before the clock, so you are not swapping backgrounds at minute three.
  2. Open Study and tap a look. Tap 25. The room opens.
  3. Write or study. The dock keeps the remaining time if you go back to the page.
  4. At the end, take 5, 10, or 30 minutes. The Waiting Room is the lighter screen for that break.

Questions

Are the pretty timers free?

The ten looks are free. The charge is on length: over 25 minutes is Pro.

Is the candle a real countdown?

Yes. It tracks the block you started.

Can I hide the numbers?

Some looks are the picture first. The dock still shows the time while a block runs, so you are not stuck without a number.

Does it include a to-do list?

No. The timer is the timer. The page is whatever you are writing.

Open Inka

Pick Candle, pick 25 minutes, and watch the wax instead of the numbers.
