Aesthetic writing app: the Inka writing app, with a room behind the page

The Inka writing app is a page set inside a room: a field, a cabin, rain, a coast. There are 30 rooms. Ten are free. The room brightens while you type and dims when you stop.

What you actually see

The free rooms are Cozy Rain Room, Rainy Tokyo, Moss Floor, Alpine Meadow, Window Counter, Ink Room, Aurora Cabin, Starlit Dunes, East River Night, and Cape Town Night. The other 20 are Pro, and they carry a mark in the grid. Tapping a locked room opens the upgrade sheet. The room stays where it was.

Most rooms are short looping videos. Some are still pictures. Ink Room is neither: a dark gradient, for when the picture is in the way. If your system asks for reduced motion, video rooms fall back to a still.

Your own background is a separate switch

Pasting an image link or a YouTube link is Pro. The last five you used are remembered. A broken link falls back quietly, and the room you already had stays.

A YouTube background can also play with sound and its own controls while the page sits in a column on the left, for taking notes on a video. That layout is for wide screens. The YouTube link itself is Pro.

How to pick a room and keep the words readable

  1. Open Room and choose one of the ten free rooms, or a Pro room if you have Pro.
  2. A darkening layer sits between the video and the text. If you still want more page, switch the page style to white.
  3. Set the type. Serif is the usual one. Atkinson is there if you want the letters more distinct.
  4. Add one sound or none. The room does not require a soundtrack.

Inka is not a pack of app icons or a handwriting practice app. The look is the room behind a draft.

How many rooms are free?

Can I bring my own aesthetic, a film still or a playlist video?

An image URL or a YouTube URL is Pro. The built-in rooms are what free includes.

Do the videos keep moving if I prefer less motion?

Video rooms show a still poster when the system asks for reduced motion.

Does the writing sit on top of the video?

Yes. You write in the same window. The text has its own colour for that room, so it stays readable.
