Writing with music: the Inka writing app, with a player in the page

The Inka writing app can play music in the same window as the draft. The music comes from Spotify. Inka does not host the songs, and it does not connect a Spotify account to your Inka account.

Three sounds playing at once, Soft Rain, Heavy Rain and Fireside, each with its own volume slider

What you can put on

Nine playlists are there to tap: lofi beats, Deep Focus, Peaceful Piano, Jazz Vibes, Ambient Relaxation, Brain Food, Coffee Table Jazz, Classical Essentials, and Instrumental Study. Or paste any Spotify playlist, album, or track link. The last five links you used stay in the panel.

The ambient beds, rain and the rest, turn down while a track is loaded, so you are not riding two volumes in a fight. You can turn that ducking off if you want both.

Why it asks you to log in to Spotify

Spotify's embedded player gives full songs only to a browser that is logged in to Spotify. That can be a free Spotify account or Premium. Until a full-length song has played in that browser, Inka shows a log-in step instead of the player. If the player still hands out 30-second previews, Inka stops them and shows the step again.

There is no "Connect Spotify" button for the public. That account link is not part of the product you can use. Logging in happens on Spotify's own screen.

How to write with a playlist

  1. Open Music in the app.
  2. Tap a playlist, or paste a link and press Enter.
  3. If you see the log-in step, log in to Spotify in this browser, then come back.
  4. Write. The player is Spotify's. Your draft does not go to Spotify.

Music needs a connection. The page itself can work offline after it has loaded, without the songs.

The nine names are Spotify's playlists, not tracks Inka recorded. If a playlist disappears on Spotify's side, the tap may fail. Pasting another link is the workaround. Your draft is unaffected either way.

Questions

Do I need Spotify Premium?

Full songs need a browser logged in to Spotify. Spotify allows that on a free account or on Premium. Inka does not sell the music and does not change Spotify's rules.

Does Inka store my Spotify login?

No. The player is Spotify's. The app's own note says your writing never leaves the browser for that panel.

Can I use Apple Music?

No. The panel is Spotify.

Is music a Pro feature?

No. The Spotify panel is free. Some ambient sounds beside it are Pro.

Open Inka

Tap a playlist, let the ambient beds duck, and write to the track.
