A virtual writing room: the Inka writing app
Search results for a virtual writing room are often a university writing centre. The Inka writing app is the other kind: a room you open in the browser and write in. There are no tutors and no appointments.
If you needed a writing centre
A writing centre reads your draft with you, usually by appointment, often through your college. Inka does not do that. It cannot book a slot, share a draft with a tutor, or comment in the margin. If that is what you need, use your school's writing centre. This page is not it.
If you needed a room
The app opens on a page with a room behind it. You pick the room, mix sounds or leave them off, and write. The controls hide while you type.
Your writing is saved on the device. It is not submitted to anyone. When you want another person to read it, you export and send the file yourself.
Ten rooms are free: Cozy Rain Room, Rainy Tokyo, Moss Floor, Alpine Meadow, Window Counter, Ink Room, Aurora Cabin, Starlit Dunes, East River Night, and Cape Town Night. Eight sounds are free, and you can mix them. A 25-minute timer is free. None of that turns the room into a class. It stays a private page. If a writing centre is what the search was for, close this tab and use the one your school lists.
How to open one
- Go to the app. It loads in the browser. Nothing is installed unless you choose to install it later from the browser menu.
- Pick a room. If you are not sure, Cozy Rain Room or Ink Room.
- Write. Use a 25-minute block if a clock helps, or ignore the timer.
- Export when the piece should leave the browser.
Questions
Can I book a tutor here?
No. Inka is not a writing centre and has no appointment calendar.
Is this a shared room with other writers online?
No. There is no lobby, no chat, and no one else in the room.
Where do I actually write?
Is a writing room the same as a focus website with a video?
Close, but the page is in the room. You are not only watching a scene. The draft is saved there.
