A Write or Die alternative: the Inka writing app

Write or Die is known for Kamikaze mode, which unwrites your words from the end if you stop typing. The Inka writing app will not do that. A pause does not erase the draft. Their site did not respond when we checked it in October 2026, so this page is not a review of their current app.

Writing in the Silent Rain City room

What we could not check

On 6 and again on 10 October 2026, writeordie.com returned nothing we could read: no feature list, no price, and on the second attempt no response at all. By public accounts the site has been down since around mid-2024 and the apps stopped being updated years before that. We are not going to invent a feature list from memory. If you want to try anyway, writeordie.com is the address, and it may not load.

The reputation, which is why people search for an alternative, is a timer that treats stopping as failure. The hard setting was called Kamikaze mode: pause long enough and it starts deleting your sentence from the end. Some writers want that pressure. Some lost a paragraph to it and do not want it again.

What Inka does instead

The Inka writing app saves as you type. Stopping is allowed. The text stays. A timer, if you start one, ends in a break panel. It does not backspace your sentence.

The writing sprint timer on this site is only a countdown. It does not see your words, so it cannot delete them. When it hits zero it can chime. That is the whole consequence.

If the thing you liked about Write or Die was the panic, Inka will feel too gentle, and you should keep looking. A gentle room is the product, not a disguised punishment.

How to sprint without a penalty

  1. Open the sprint timer or a 25-minute block in the app.
  2. Write until it ends. If you freeze, the words you already typed remain.
  3. Count the words yourself. Neither clock counts them, and neither one deletes them.
  4. Edit later, in the same piece or after you export.

Questions

Will the Inka writing app delete text if I stop typing?

No. A pause does not erase anything. The draft is saved as you go.

Is this an official Write or Die alternative from them?

No. We make Inka. We are not affiliated with Write or Die.

Is Write or Die still online?

It did not respond when we checked on 10 October 2026, and it has not been updated for years. Do not treat this page as a review of a current build.

Is there a consequence at the end of a sprint?

A chime on the site timer, if you allow it, or a break panel in the app. The draft is intact.

Other comparisons

Six pages, one other app each, written the same way: we make Inka, and the other column is read off their own site on a dated reading.

Start a sprint that cannot take a word back, and keep everything you wrote.
